Parang Pattern

In my last post, I promised to show you Parang Batik I currently own. So, here are the photos:

First two photos are new batik fabric. The pattern is a variation of Parang pattern. This lovely batik is special because it was dyed with organic coloring.

Last three photos are antique Parang Batik. See how intricate the detail in pattern; the process must have taken a lot of patience. Talking about those days when people weren't as busy; less TV shows, no social media, no handphone :) . The artisan chose to occupy themselves with creating works of art.

the fabric dimension is approximately 2 metre x 1 metre

Tumpal (To͞ompäl) is repeating triangle pattern as border of fabric

Actually, this was used as saroong, and when worn the Tumpal border would be placed in front of body, accentuating the whole style.

This antique piece of fabric came with smaller piece with same pattern which functioned as scarf, and usually worn together on special ocassion.  I should post photos how a set of batik worn some other time, so you can see a clearer picture.[]
