Batik Pattern: Parang

Mylalitastyle products use beautiful traditional fabrics from Indonesia, batik and handwoven. Batik, like others, has numerous motifs, so many that I could not explain each of them one by one in a posting. It takes long writing, just to sum up all Indonesia traditional fabrics. I'm planning to regularly write brief post, perhaps once every one or two week.

Currently, I have two pieces of batik fabric featuring Parang pattern. One is old enough, I guess it's more than 30 years old. Another is new. I'm thinking up giving the old one a new loving house, whose master can care, enjoy, and appreciate such an art to the utmost. Whereas the new one will be transformed into a lovely one of a kind tunic.

What is Parang (päräng) pattern anyway?

"Parang" word is derived from "Pereng" (pərəng) which in Javanese means slope. This pattern shows continued S letter pattern is parallel diagonal lines. Nowadays, there are so many Parang motifs owing to modification or combination with other pattern.

I will update this post with pictures of Parang fabrics I own. Stay tuned!

P.S: My profil picture is a cropped photo of Parang pattern
